Our vision
Bloxx Bureau envisions Malta as a leading player in the global video game industry, known for its creativity, innovation, and excellence. We aim to contribute in building a vibrant ecosystem that encompasses game development studios, esports arenas, gaming conventions, and educational initiatives to support aspiring game developers. Bloxx Bureau furthermore wants to contribute toward making Malta an esports hub and to support the esports community grow.
Why Malta
In 2019, Malta launched its vision for video games development and esports.
Malta’s vision is aimed at helping companies already residing in Malta to further expand their operations, AND to attract new game studios from abroad.
Malta’s vision for video games development is aimed at expanding the industry’s contribution from 0.1% to 1% of the GDP in 10 years, whilst creating up to 3,000 new jobs.
More recently, Keywords Studios plc (TICKER: KWS.L), which employs 11,000 people across 70 facilities in 24 countries, expanded to Malta.
Its US-based company Sperasoft, which worked on games like Rainbow Six Extraction, FIFA 2022 and Assassins Creed Valhalla, has also established a presence in Malta.
Government support
In order to support the industry Malta provides various support schemes for enterprises. These include but are not limited to:
• Start up residency programme, and
Nomad residence permits;
• Business Development Grant Scheme;
• Aid rate for qualifying expenses between
15% for small, 25% for medium, and 35% for large businesses;
• Qualifying employment in innovation and creativity incentive, whereby a 15% flat rate tax may be availed by individuals employed in an eligible office.
